I searched all over for a complete set of busts representing the Hogwarts Founders. While there are a few individual sculpts out there—Slytherin in particular seems to get the most attention—there wasn’t a cohesive set that felt like it belonged together. That gap turned into a project.

During my search, I came across a concept that really stood out:

Angel Moonlight’s concept art inspired this project. I was drawn to his detailed, unified vision of the Hogwarts Founders, though the intricacy made it challenging to translate into 3D printable models, requiring some simplification while preserving the overall look. From there, I started working toward a version that could actually be printed and displayed as a cohesive set. The goal was to create a unified collection of Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin—something that would feel at home in a Hogwarts display, almost like artifacts pulled straight from the castle itself.

Each bust went through a fair amount of iteration. Proportions, facial detail, and printability all needed to be balanced. Some early attempts didn’t quite land—either too soft in detail or not structurally sound for printing—so there was a fair bit of trial and error before arriving at the final versions.

The finished set is fully 3D printed and designed to work as a cohesive display. Whether placed together or individually, each piece carries its own personality while still feeling like part of the same collection.

Printing Frustrations
#

After generating the models with Meshy.ai, printing introduced a new set of challenges. The overhanging hands and large robe sleeves were too heavy for the initial supports, leading to failures and requiring more aggressive support structures to maintain stability. At the same time, I hadn’t merged the statue and name plaques into a single assembly in Bambu Studio, which caused supports to be generated through or directly against the plaques.

After refining the support strategy and combining the parts into an assembly, the prints became much more reliable. The final versions strike a balance between detail and stability, preserving the character of the designs while ensuring they can be printed cleanly.
